Is Canada also your dream home?

Canada_Immigration_1980-2013.

Canada is one of the world’s safest countries. Canada is well-known for its hospitality, affordable, high-quality education and inclusive, multicultural spirit. Infact, Canada has long been. But will it continue to be, a land of immigration with the current trend? Well, only time will tell.

My latest visualization on immigration pattern within a period of 33 years (1980-2013) shows some interesting insight, and I will like to share them with you.

The dataset used for the analysis was obtained online through the United Nation Population Division, which shows the international Immigration flow through and from selected countires. However, the focus here will be on Canada. Its interesting to note that Canada welcome immigrant both from developing and developed regions of the world, why is this? do they wanna acquire the best brain around the world to develop their economy, well maybe YES.

Exporatory Data Analysis(EDA).

The source file for the dataset was an excel sheet, I used python via my Jupyter notebook. The EDA involves several process in order to obtained a fine turned data for the visualization. Certain features(columns) where removed as they do not contribute significantly to the analysis.

Using df.info(): I obtained most of the information about the dataset, ranging fron the class of the datatype presnet to whether there are Nulls or not. The dataset did not contain any nulls, so I proceeded with the analysis, by renaming certain features to better decribe the column e.g

df.rename(columns = {'OdName':'Country','AreaName':'Continent'}, inplace = True), here the column name "OdName" was changed to "Country".

Counts of immigrants for each years were recoreded in separate columns, therefor I created a new column name "Total" which contains the summation of the immigrant to and fro from Canada for each country/region/continent.

Now that the data is ready, it was loaded back to CSV using df.to_csv('Canada.csv'), the CSV file was then imported to Microsoft PowerBI for Visualization.

OUTCOME OF THE VISUALIZATION.

1. Within 1980-2013, which is a period of 33 years, there has been over 6 million Canada Arrivals.

2. i. Among the continents contribucting to the immigration are Asia, Europe Africa and Oceania. With Asia contribucting the most with more than 3 million immigrants and Oceania with the least immigrants of just slightly above 55,000.

ii. It is interesting to note that the Top 5 Countries by immigration include; India, China, United Kingdom,Philippines and Parkistan.

iii. Although, Africa as continent contributed about 620000 to the population of Canada during those period. However, this number is less than what India alone as country contributed, which is almost 700,000 immigrants

3. i. The viz also reveal that migration to Canada is from both developing and developed regions fo the world. However, developing regions contributed about 73.26% of the immgrants recieved by Canada during the selected period.

ii. Finally, Looking at the trend of immigration to Canada over the selected period of years, its obvious that Canada has gained popularity and acceptance among a wide range of countries. This is because the immigration pattern has continue to show an overall increase in pattern, which begs the question, WHY CANADA? and could this high influx of people to the country be responsible to the current backlog, which is being experienced by the Goverment of the country?
